What happens when you change FLAC to MP3

When you drop a FLAC file, your browser's native FLAC decoder (part of the Web Audio API) unpacks it back to raw PCM audio — the exact samples the FLAC originally compressed. That step is lossless. The raw audio is then fed to the LAME MP3 encoder, compiled to JavaScript and running in a background worker, which encodes it at the constant bitrate you selected.

Before encoding, the tool reads every Vorbis comment tag — title, artist, album, track number, year, genre, composer — and any embedded cover art from the FLAC, and writes them into the MP3 as ID3v2.3 tags. The finished file is assembled in memory and handed back to you as a download. At no point does audio, metadata, or any part of your file leave your device.

Can I change 24-bit or high-resolution FLAC files?

Yes. MP3 maxes out at 48 kHz, so higher sample rates are resampled to 44.1 or 48 kHz. The content above 22 kHz that gets trimmed is inaudible, and 320 kbps gives the encoder enough room to handle the rest transparently.
